Boosting Metabolism For Effective Weight Loss

Why the Metabolism Problem Exists

If we all followed nature’s plan for metabolizing food, and we never ate too much or too little, we always got enough exercise, and ignored fads, then we wouldn’t have to worry about boosting metabolism to bring it back into balance. Unfortunately, our kids are taught from a young age that sitting still brings rewards. As a child you sit still at home so you don’t bother mom and dad, you watch TV, play videos games or sit in front of a computer all day. You sit still in your chair in the classroom, and you get good grades – which results in more sitting through college and perhaps a lengthy career involving still more sitting.

Add to all this inactivity a steady diet of packaged and processed foods and you have a sure fire recipe for a slow metabolism. This leads to weight gain and all the problems associated with it. Besides weight gain, a slow metabolism can lead to depression and lethargy. Your body is moving slower in all respects. Eventually, some of us get tired of feeling this way, and decide we need to do something about boosting metabolism to correct the sluggish, tired way we feel, and the bloated, pudgy way we look.

Boosting Metabolism is Simple

Luckily, boosting metabolism for better calorie conversion and weight loss is not difficult! There are two simple steps you can do immediately to raise your metabolism, improve your weight loss and start to feel better.

Change destructive habits. If you don’t exercise, start slowly. It doesn’t take a ton of exercise to change your metabolism. If you know you eat too much, start cutting back. Stop starving yourself to lose weight – it’s affecting metabolism negatively by making your body believe it needs to conserve every calorie.

Educate yourself. Take the time to learn about boosting metabolism and how your metabolism works, and you will understand what you can do to control it, and control your weight. You can learn what to eat, when to eat it, and how it works to put you back in charge of your life and your health.

By taking these two simple steps, you can put yourself on the road to a better body and a better quality of life very quickly. The best news is that even small improvements will help, because the more you work on boosting metabolism the easier it is to do more. Understanding your metabolism is the key to living your life at a healthier weight.

Functional Metabolism

Functional Metabolism

$199.95

Functional Metabolism of Cells is the first comprehensive survey of metabolism, offering an in-depth examination of metabolism and regulation of carbohydrates, lipids, and amino acids. It provides a basic background on metabolic regulation and adaptation as well as the chemical logic of metabolism, and covers the interrelationship of metabolism to life processes of the whole organism. The book lays out a structured approach to the metabolic basis of disease, including discussion of the normal pathways of metabolism, altered pathways leading to disease, and use of molecular genetics in diagnosis and treatment of disease. It also takes a unique comparative approach in which human metabolism is a reference for metabolism in microorganisms and plant design, and presents novel coverage of development and aging, and human health and animal adaptation. The final chapter reviews the past and future promise of new genetic approaches to treatment and bioinformatics. This, the most exhaustive treatment of metabolism currently available, is a useful text for advanced undergraduates and graduates in biochemistry, cell/molecular biology, and biomedicine, as well as biochemistry instructors and investigators in related fields.

Metabolism at a Glance

Metabolism at a Glance

$42.19

"Metabolism at a Glance" is a complete review course of metabolism in health and disease and offers a unique approach to the study of this difficult discipline. Metabolism is a complicated subject involving complex molecules and interrelated pathways. These metabolic pathways are usually taught separately with the result that the student develops a detailed but compartmentalised approach to metabolism and frequently fails to see the overall picture and its physiological significance. Using the at a Glance format, the book takes the student through a complete course in intermediary metabolism in an integrated manner. The same chart is repeated throughout the book with the individual pathway under study highlighted. The book is an ideal text for introductory biochemistry courses and has established itself as an enormously popular book amongst lecturers and students alike. This third edition is fully updated and includes five new chapters to mirror those topics currently taught at undergraduate level: 1. Metabolic Channelling 2. Glucose homeostasis and Reye’s Disease 3. Pentose phosphate pathway and the prodcution of NADPH 4. Tryptophan metabolism in health and disease 5. Tyrosine metabolism in health and disease

Iron Metabolism

Iron Metabolism

$210

Iron is of fundamental importance to the growth, development and well-being of almost all living organisms. Multiple biological systems have evolved for the uptake, utilisation, storage, and homeostasis of iron in microbes, plants and mammals. Both iron deficiency and iron overload are found extensively in humans; the intimate links between iron and oxidative stress are associated with a wide range of pathologies. Iron has a well established role in infections by a range of microorganisms and parasites. Other metals such as copper and zinc are also closely linked with iron metabolism. Iron overloads and deficiencies are important factors in the health of humans and are therefore a key target in drug development. Iron Metabolism: From Molecular Mechanisms to Clinical Consequences, 3rd Edition presents a comprehensive overview of this important field.Topics covered include: Solution chemistry of iron in biological media The importance of iron for biological systems Microbial iron transport and metabolism Iron uptake by plants and fungi Cellular iron uptake and export in mammals Intracellular iron storage and biomineralization Intracellular iron metabolism and cellular iron homeostasis Iron absorption in mammals, with particular reference to man, and regulation of systemic iron balance Pathophysiology of iron deficiency and iron overload in man Iron and oxidative stress Brain iron homeostasis and its perturbation in various neurodegenerative diseases Interactions between iron and other metals Written in a lively style by one of the leaders in the field and presented in full colour, this third, expanded edition of Iron Metabolism has been fully updated with the latest discoveries. Major additions include recent information on mitochondrial iron metabolism and the role of frataxin; transcriptional control of iron homeostasis; orally active iron chelators; the roles of hepcidin and erythropoietin; the increasing number of types of iron overload; and the importance of iron in Alzheimer’s disease.  Iron Metabolism is essential reading for researchers and students in biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, cell biology, nutrition and the medical sciences.  It will also find space on the bookshelves of bioinorganic chemists with an interest in iron metabolism, health professionals with an interest in diseases of iron metabolism, and pharmacologists in the pharmaceutical industry interested in developing novel iron-binding drugs.

Exercise Metabolism

Exercise Metabolism

$71.4

"Exercise Metabolism, Second Edition," provides a systematic, in-depth examination of the regulation of metabolic processes during exercise. Exercise physiologists, exercise biochemists, and biochemists will find this book a comprehensive reference, using the up-to-date information and the nearly 1,000 references in their own research and writing. In addition, graduate students in these disciplines can learn firsthand about the various regulations of metabolic processes during exercise as they prepare for careers in exercise physiology or biochemistry. Written by internationally recognized researchers, "Exercise Metabolism, Second Edition," is both revised and expanded while retaining the essential elements of the first edition. It delves into the mobilization and utilization of substrates–glucose, lipid, and protein–during physical activity, and it explores metabolic factors in fatigue and metabolic adaptations to endurance training. Chapter 1 provides an overview of exercise metabolism. Metabolism during high-intensity exercise and the transition from rest to exercise are covered in chapter 2, which details the so-called anaerobic energy pathways. Chapter 3 discusses the effects of exercise on carbohydrate metabolism in skeletal muscle, while chapter 4 provides an overview of the important metabolic functions of the liver during exercise. Chapter 5 is a new chapter that addresses lactate transport in skeletal muscle, given the increased understanding of this topic since the first edition was published. Chapters 6 and 7 summarize the effects of exercise on lipolysis in adipose tissue and lipid metabolism in skeletal muscle, respectively. The contribution of protein and amino acids to exercise metabolism is discussed in chapter 8. Finally, metabolic factors in fatigue and the metabolic adaptations to endurance training are reviewed in chapters 9 and 10, respectively. Chapter-ending summaries help to condense the information and facilitate understanding. "Exercise Metabolism, Second Edition," is a valuable reference to exercise physiologists, exercise biochemists, and biochemists, and it serves as an ideal text for graduate students in these disciplines.
